Cherry Blossom Festival

The blooms in D.C. came so early this year!  What wildly mild weather we're having.  I won't ever complain about that, but I just hope it doesn't mean hot-beyond-belief temps will be quick to come, too.  I'd like to have a bit of spring this year.  The mid-Atlantic seems to go from winter to the dead heat of summer in a matter of days in years past and I live for the in between time ~ open windows!

We make the trek to D.C. this weekend to visit our friends K&A and to catch a glimpse of the beauty that is the National Cherry Blossom Festival. It truly is a national treasure. This year marks100 years since the trees were gifted from Japan as a symbol of friendship. In February of 1912, over 3,000 trees arrived by ship.  If you're interested in the history, click here.  D.C. is celebrating the Centennial for five weeks.  We were lucky to be able to visit just after the blooms sprouted.

 Heading down to the Mall.
